What is the FGA Academy Programme?

It is the pathway to success for the Home of Golf’s leading young players. The primary objective is to develop players able to compete for Fife and at a National Level. It was launched in 2010 and is part of the performance pathway of the Scottish Golf Union.

Who is eligible for the Academy?

Anyone Under 16 on January 1st 2012 if you have:

·         Great attitude to coaching and willingness to learn

·         Commitment to academy programme

·         Desire to succeed

What is the format of the academy programme?

The academy selects around 30 players each year. The players are then split into different squads U16, U14 and U12.There are 3 performance centres which provide the coaching, Elie Sports Club, Wellsgreen and Forrester Park. The Academy programme runs from October 1st to March 31st.

What support does the Academy programme provide?

·         Induction Day with parents

·         Coaching : 4 hours of group coaching each month from some of Scotland’s best PGA Professionals

·         Education  : Series of seminars on all aspects of the game from some of the leading authorities in Scotland (Eg Psychology, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning)

·         Coach to Pupil Ratio 1 : 4

·         Performance analysis with golfdatalab

·         Equipment  : club fitting for individuals

·         Playing : Monthly squad session on a course

What does it cost?

The programme costs £90. The vast majority of the Academy is funded by the Fife Golf Association
