PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE 2024

A very successful Presentation of Prizes for the 2023 Season was held at Balbirnie Park Golf Club on Friday 1 March 2024. There was a good representation of clubs and societies from across Fife, and also in attendance as an invited guest, was Marina Hope, the President of  the Fife County Ladies Golf Association.

Balbirnie Park were excellent  hosts, providing a delicious finger buffet and regular refreshment from the bar. Thanks to all the staff at Balbirnie Park who contributed the  evening and special thanks to George Allan, Captain of Balbirnie Park, for all his assistance.

Whilst the Presentation of Prizes for 2023 is a celebration of last year’s golf successes it also signifies the official opening of the 2024 Season when entries for the FGA competitions go live on the Scottish Golf App and all FGA events can be entered online.

I hope the level of support for the 2024 events exceeds 2023 and will continue to increase and competitors enjoy taking part in events right across Fife. The Executive Council have been working hard over the winter period to organise events and team matches for the 2024 season.

We are extremely grateful to the clubs, their committees and of course their members who have provided courtesy of their course and clubhouse for FGA events this season.A copy of the fixture list is included on the website. Once again, we have combined the Fife Golfing Association fixture list with the Fife County Ladies Golfing Association fixture list to which we have added Scottish Golf and other national events taking place within Fife. The combined fixture list is a comprehensive list of all the major amateur events taking place in Fife in 2024 which we are delighted to promote.

Looking at some of the details the Fife Men’s Strokeplay and Matchplay will be held at Pitreavie Golf Club in July which will be a good test for the top golfers in Fife. The Fife Senior Men’s Strokeplay and Matchplay will be held at Ladybank in June and the Fife Junior Strokeplay and Matchplay at Scoonie in July. The Fife Team Championship will be played at Cowdenbeath for the first time in May.

The Mackay Bowl Order of Merit will once again run throughout the season. However, incorporated within the Mackay Bowl we have re-introduced a Junior Order of Merit under a new format entitled the “Road to Dumbarnie” where the top 12 at the end of the season will take part in a play-off final at Dumbarnie on 22 September 2024.
In addition, we have introduced a new Seniors Order of Merit entitled the “Road to The Dukes” where the top 12 in the order of merit at the end of the season will play off at “The Dukes” to decide the winners.

Finally, the Fife Women’s Stableford Championship is being held at Canmore Golf Club on Sunday 25 August 2024 and will incorporate for the first time the “Fife Senior (55 year and over) Women’s Stableford Championship”

The 2024 season for Fife Golfing Association and its affiliated clubs and societies is looking to be one of the most interesting in recent years with a good range of competitions to suit all age groups and abilities played on some of the best courses in Fife.

I hope that you are all getting ready and looking forward to your golf in the forthcoming season and we would appreciate whatever support you can give us by entering events wherever possible.
